About Jean

I’m Jean. And I’m still rebuilding.

I used to think of myself as confident. Trusting. Bubbly and joyful around the people I knew. I loved travelling and trying new things — I believed almost anything was worth trying once.

I was also the person who always considered everyone else’s needs. Sometimes at the expense of my own.

When a four-year relationship ended, I experienced a kind of grief I had never understood before. I wasn’t only grieving the person. I was grieving the future I had imagined, the trust I had placed in someone, and the version of myself I had built inside that relationship.

My confidence quietly fell apart. I questioned my appearance, my appeal, and whether anyone would choose me.

And then, cancer.

Just as I was beginning to find my way forward, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My first thoughts were simple and terrifying. Why me? How serious is this? Will I die?

There was uncertainty. Chemotherapy and everything that comes with it. Losing my hair. A mastectomy, and a scar I will carry for the rest of my life.

I had been rebuilding emotionally after heartbreak — and suddenly I also had to learn how to recognise and love myself through physical changes I never expected. One of my deepest fears was that cancer would take away my quality of life, right when I was starting to find myself again.

What I’m learning

Somewhere along the way, I began to understand something: I could grieve and still live.

I haven’t “moved on.” Memories still arrive unexpectedly. Waves of grief still come. The difference is that I’m learning to make room for those feelings without letting grief make every decision about how I live.

Life can change no matter how carefully we plan. That uncertainty has also shown me how precious living is. Today I feel stronger, more positive, and far less governed by other people’s opinions.

Today, I choose myself.

I’m still learning. I’m still grieving. I’m still rebuilding.

But through all of it, I’ve held on to something:

Hope.

Professional perspective

Before Beautifully Rebuilt

Before building Beautifully Rebuilt, I developed my career in corporate banking, working in senior roles involving client relationships, risk, operations, change and stakeholder management.

That experience gives me a real understanding of the pressure women face navigating demanding careers while privately carrying significant personal challenges.

I didn’t rebuild myself to become the woman I was before. I rebuilt myself to become kinder to the woman I am now.
